James has been an artist for 25 years painting portraits, landscapes and seascapes. He is a Royal portrait painter and an official war artist who lives in the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

"I love the challenge of painting, whether it be people or landscapes, to catch their character and realism in a traditional, expressive flurry of paint."

James believes that a painting should look like a painting with visible brush marks which he believes gives an interesting, expressive painted surface to bring out the character and feeling of the scene.
