Rebecca Paul is based in Hamilton, just outside Glasgow. She paints plein air natural landscapes, and living spaces of homes and cities.
She is influenced by mid-century American artists, including David Weidman, Mary Blair and Evyind Earle, and her pieces explore the relationship of colour and form through layers of mixed media. She is especially interested in bold, unexpected colour palettes.
Becky aims to capture character in her work. The influenced of Impressionism and Japanese art styles are evident in her work. Inks and paints feature heavily, because of their brilliant vibrant colours and their deep blacks. Becky finds working with ink over paint is a lovely way to capture detail. Scottish buildings and streets provide a lot inspiration for her work and she loves the Gothic and Victorian architecture of our big cities. She has recently moved into more traditional landscape work but will always enjoy looking at how man-made structures fit with natural backgrounds.
