Based in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Hilary Gauci says: "I am a self-taught artist who started painting ten years ago. I have tried many different mediums but from the first time I used alkyd oils I was hooked. Their brilliance, depth of colour and speed of drying suited my type of work perfectly and so we continue in happy partnership. I paint on superfine Belgian linen on gessoed board and the painting is finished with two or three coats of varnish.
I live in the wilds of Aberdeenshire and am surrounded by peace and space which creates a wonderful counterbalance against the intense concentration required for the sort of paintings I produce. Still life holds a fascination for me. I love the reflections in silver, pewter and copper and the colour and shape of fruit with just a little bit of foliage."
