Alison studied Art and Design at Glasgow School of Art from 1979-1983 and qualified with a BA honours degree in jewellery and silversmithing. She is a member of the Worshipal Company of Goldsmiths.

Alison ran her own business, AJW Jewellery for thirteen years. Focusing on anodised titanium jewellery, boxes and pictures. She was drawn to colour. She was supplying wholesale to Britain, America and Japan.

Alison also taught Art and Design at Secondary schools from 1993-2016. She was then head-hunted by Loudon Academy Communication Centre to teach children with Autism and additional support needs. Alison describes finding her tribe and loving every minute of the marvellous yet demanding job. 

Alison had always continued with art when she could, but she retired from teaching in 2024 to give full focus to her artworks. Alison is passionate about what she does. Every new piece is a challenge as Alison is a perfectionist and puts everything into her colourful work.
