Emilio Payes is from the artistic hub of Alcoy, Alicante, Spain. He showed an interest for art early in his life, and then pursued it at age 18 by studying at the Art & Crafts School in Alicante where he studied under Edmundo Jorda.
The works of Emilio Payes are in private collections in Japan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and the United States. Collectors include Prince Fahd Bin Salman Bi of Saudi Arabia, and individuals from the French Aristocracy, and the Belgian Aristocracy.
Payes has described his current style and influence of paintings as customs, manners, and impressionism. His favored subjects are landscapes, harbor scenes, and Parisian themes
